Department of Geology is one of those departments in CNCS which opened in 2010 under physics department and continue by its own in 2011. At the establishment, the department received 50 students with 3 staff members. Then after, in 2011 around 50 students, in 20012 around 55 students, in 2013 again 60 students, in 2014 around 60, in 2015 again 60 students again in 2016 around 60, and in 2017 90 students have been admitted. 38, 50, 52, 46, 42 and 44 students in the year 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009,2010 and 2011 E.C are graduated before. The department is working on building the capacity of students admitted. The department also building the staff capacity and currently there are 9 MSc students in different universities completing their study. The department staffs also strengthen themselves on research and community service activities. Generally, the department has currently 4 PhD staff, 15 MSc staff, 4 BSc staff and 4 technical assistants. The department has launched MSc programs in four specializations (Environmental geology & Geohazards, Petrology, Geophysics & Paleontology & Paleoenvironment).
Facilities: We have Petrography lab and GIS lab for both BSc and MSc programs
The department also have computer lab, Mapping and structural lab, Rock lab for BSc program.
